Louis May Alcott did have a few major crushes, so I think it likely that she wrote Jo an ending that would be her own ideal. It also completes Jo's character arc from pushing against womanhood to seeing its value. After having seen the 2019 version, i cant even imagine watching the old versions without cringing.
